Homework 6
Homework 6 is now out on the course website. Do get started on problem 4 immediately - even though the competition doesn't start till Wednesday, you need to start setting up your campaigns and thinking about your advertising strategies asap so that you have time to contact me (Raga) in case you run into difficulties, and sort things out. Good luck!

1) The ads account to be used is "The ideas behind the Web" with account ID 366529331.
ReplyDelete2) The entire homework (including the report for problem 4) is due on Friday 03/04 1:30pm.
For those who are new to ad auctions, I strongly recommend getting started at http://www.facebook.com/adsmarketing
ReplyDeleteIn particular, be sure to read:
http://www.facebook.com/adsmarketing/index.php?sk=cost
http://www.facebook.com/adsmarketing/index.php?sk=delivery
To clarify Raga's comments above -- we EXPECT that you're new to ad auctions...so facebook's tutorials are a good point to start to learn what's going on. In class, starting on Friday, I'll be going over the "theory" behind google's ad auctions, but I hope that you learn the "practice" of ad auctions through this competition...
ReplyDeleteAs I mentioned, one member from each group has general user privileges to the ads account. If other members of the group would like a 'reports only' access (which is similar to a read-only access), I can arrange that. Just send me an email with your Facebook email address.
ReplyDeleteGuys, feel free to use CPC or CPM for your ads.
ReplyDeleteAnother comment -- please feel free to post (appropriate) items on the "Ideas behind the web page" ... having some content couldn't hurt. For example, I noticed some people using ads mentioning the basketball win. Sharing an article related to that would be fine. Also, sharing articles related to topics we cover in the course would also be fine.
ReplyDeleteI've seen some students use "External URL" feature instead of the page itself when creating their ads, in order to escape the requirement of the title of the ad having to be the same as the title of the page. The instructions on the homework specifically ask you to use the "page" option while creating the ad, and not the external url option. I'm going to disallow this for now, mainly because then we'll be allowing spam ads.
ReplyDeleteI'm seeing an unfortunate trend in some of the ads that are being rejected... Off topic ads are fine, but please stay away from "inappropriate" topics -- that's too easy, you can do better.
ReplyDeleteIf one of the group members submit the Facebook report, that will suffice.
